Each issue of the magazine had a tagline under the title “Wisdom.” From 1956 to early 1957, the tagline read “The Magazine of Knowledge for all America.” In 1957, with edition 22 featuring David Sarnoff, the tagline was changed to “The Magazine of Knowledge and Education,”. This change may have been made to broaden the magazine’s audience and refocus its content. The tagline was changed again in 1959, with the 29th edition featuring Pearl Buck, to “The Magazine of Knowledge for Lifetime Learning and Education.” This tagline remained in use for all issues from 1959 until the final issue in 1964. In fact, this final tagline was the magazine’s original focus: to create a publication that emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and the acquisition of knowledge.
